Recruitment process of medical technologists underway to fight COVID-19: Maleque

DHAKA, June 22, 2020 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today said the government has started the recruitment process of medical technologists in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“If necessary, the government will recruit 2,000 more physicians to handle the pandemic” he told a press briefing at the VIP lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here, an official release said.

Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Abul Kalam Azad and senior officials of the health ministry, among others, were present at the press briefing.

The minister went to the airport to see off the Chinese medical expert team, who arrived here to provide their experiences and expertise to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Maleque said, “China will give priority to Bangladesh in terms of cooperation and support if they can successfully develop vaccine for the coronavirus.”

He said the Chinese team has expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by Bangladesh government to fight COVID-19. They have also come up with some suggestions for Bangladesh to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic properly.

As part of widening testing facilities across the country, the government has intensified its efforts to collect necessary medical essentials, including kits for testing suspected virus cases, the health minister said.
