Reach police services to people’s doorsteps: IGP

DHAKA, June 22, 2020 (BSS) – Inspector General of Police Dr Benazir Ahmed has urged the police officials to reach their services to the people’s doorsteps coming out from the traditional trend.

“People have to come to police for getting services, but we want to introduce a system so that the people don’t have to come to police . . . Reach police services to people’s doorsteps,” he said while speaking at a videoconference with senior police officials from his office at Police Headquarters here last night.

He gave directives to the police officials concerned to reach the common people through beat policing system and provide masses optimum services, adding, “Each union parishad will be marked as a police beat to provide services.”

Mentioning the service system, Dr Benazir said a police officer will be assigned for each beat. He will regularly inquire about all sorts of opportunities and problems of locals, keep in touch with them, know their opinions and solve their problems immediately, said a press release of police headquarters this afternoon.

“We want to introduce beat policing all-over the country. We want to reach out to common people. We want to win people’s hearts,” he categorically added.

Referring to the pandemic COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, the IGP said, “During this tough time, people didn’t have to come to us. We went to people and stood by them with all-out our efforts.”

He went on saying, “Police have become infected with the deadly diseases. We have lost our lives to protect them from the Corona infections. We tried to provide food to their homes, arranged for their travel facilities and harvesting paddy.”

Apart from this, the police chief said the family members and relatives of the corona victims did not come nearer after their deaths, but “We have arranged burials though it was not police’s responsibility. We did it from the sense of human responsibility only.”

Dr Benazir said one day there will be no COVID-19 or Corona, “But we will still have to keep trying to earn people’s trust and love through the works”.

He expressed his deep respect to the police personnel who died of Covid-19 while discharging their duties.

“If police want to be a people-friendly force, they must be freed from drug abuse or link with any drug dealers,” he said.

About the corruption, the police chief also issued a note of warning saying that he would not accept police members’ involvement with any corruption.

IGP urged all to work together for the welfare of the country and people.
