Govt takes awareness programmes on sacrificial animal waste disposal

DHAKA, Aug 23, 2017 (BSS)- The government has taken up various programmes to create public awareness on slaughtering the sacrificial animals and managing wastes properly during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

“Instructed by the Prime Minister, more than 10,000 spots were fixed across the country for slaughtering sacrificial animals to save the environment from pollution protecting public health,” said an official release issued here today.

The awareness programmes were finalized at a meeting on ‘Sacrificial Animal’s Waste Management’ at the Information Ministry Conference room yesterday with its Secretary Martuza Ahmad in the chair.

Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Information Officer Kamrun Nahar and Director General of Prime Minister’s Office Md Abdul Halim were present at the meeting, among others.

The meeting urged the local people to take their sacrificial animals to the designated spots for slaughtering, the release added.

The awareness programmes include imposing restrictions on slaughtering animals in open spaces, on roads and alleys excepting in front of their houses and designated spots.

It also includes conducting campaign through loudspeakers and distributing leaflets at union, upazila and district levels and circulating and airing public awareness programmes in print and electronic media.

Besides, Dhaka City Corporations have finalized preparedness to remove the wastes of the sacrificial animals in the quickest possible time after slaughtering, the release said.

It also said, “If the animals are slaughtered at the designated spots in the city, it would be possible to remove the waste, blood and leftovers of the slaughtered animals within 36 hours”.
