Dhaka urges Madrid to recruit Bangladeshi agri-laborer

DHAKA, June 14, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka has urged Madrid to recruit
agri-laborer from here for Spanish agriculture industry considering
their skills in farming as Bangladesh is the fourth paddy and fifth
vegetable producing county in the world.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen made the urge during a recent
telephone conversation with his Spanish counterpart Arancha Gonzalez
Laya, a foreign ministry press release said.

Observing that that there is an ample opportunity of expanding
cooperation in the sector between the two countries, Momen said Spain
can utilize Bangladeshi farmers during the post COVID-19 period.

Bangladesh foreign minister urged Spain to take steps to refrain
the global brands from cancelling their orders of Bangladesh’s RMG
sector in this unprecedented crisis situation.

He also urged Spanish enterprises to import shrimp, ship,
jute-products, medicines, personal protective equipment (PPE) and
other goods from here considering their world standard quality as well
as reasonable prices. Momen observed that Spain has the scope to
invest in developing railway connections in Bangladesh, said Dr Momen.

Mentioning that presently investment friendly atmosphere is
prevailing in Bangladesh, he urged Spanish enterprises to invest more
here saying that investing in Bangladesh is more profitable than other
countries in the region. Besides, he said Spain can invest at 28
high-tech parks in Bangladesh while the country has a huge pool of
skilled IT professionals.

Spanish Foreign Minister Laya expressed his hope that bilateral
cooperation between the two nations will be strengthened in
post-coronavirus situation.

Bangladesh foreign minister also sought Spanish support in safe and
dignified repatriation of persecuted Rohingyas to Myanmar.

He said Bangladesh as the newly made president of Climate
Vulnerable Forum (CVF) seeks Spain’s cooperation on climate issues.

Momen sought cooperation from his counterpart in arranging a
chartered flight to take back over 300 expatriate Bangladeshi workers,
who are employed in Spain but got stuck here as they had come here in
their vacation before outbreak of the pandemic.

In reply, Laya assured cooperation in all the issues.

Bangladesh foreign minister also thanked the Spanish government for
its overall support provided to expatriate Bangladeshi community in
Spain during this crisis moment.
