Kamal for withdrawal VAT on test kits, PPE, medicines for COVID-19 prevention

DHAKA, June 11, 2020 (BSS) – Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed withdrawal of VAT on test kits of COVID-19, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Surgical Mask (including face mask) and medicines at the import, manufacturing and trading stages.

“To support activities related to detection and prevention of corona virus, I propose to exempt VAT on test kits of Covid-19 on the import, manufacturing and trading stages,” said the minister while placing the proposed budget for fiscal year 2020-21 in the Jatiya Sangsad today.

Alongside, exemption has also been proposed at the manufacturing and trading stages for locally manufactured PPE and Surgical Mask (including face mask) to protect health workers.

He also proposed to exempt VAT on COVID-19 medicines at the import, manufacturing and trading stages.

Kamal said also proposed to continue exemption on meditation service for one more year to keep mental health sound during the pandemic.

Earlier, the government waived import duty on test kits of COVID-19, masks and PPE and raw materials for production of hand-sanitizers, masks and PPE.
