JS adopts condolence motion on death of Habibur Rahman Mollah MP, others

DHAKA, June 10, 2020 (BSS) – The Parliament today unanimously
adopted a condolence motion expressing profound grief at the demises
of a sitting MP, eight former lawmakers and a former Gana Parishad
member.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the condolence motion in
the House at the beginning of the eighth session of the 11th
parliament.

Awami League lawmaker and valiant freedom fighter Habibur Rahman
Mollah died of old-age complications on May 6 this year at the age of
78 while undergoing treatment at a city hospital.

The former lawmakers were freedom fighter Waliur Rahman Reza, one of
the organisers of Liberation War Khandaker Asaduzzaman, Jatiya Mohila
Parishad chairman and freedom fighter Mamtaz Begum, Alhaj Makbul
Hossain, Kamrun Nahar Putul, former state minister Anwarul Kabir
Talukder, MA Matin and Syed Rahmatur Rab Irtiza Ahsan, while the
former member of Gana Parishad (Constituent Assembly of Bangladesh)
was Advocate Zahirul Islam.

The House expressed deep shock at the death of Emeritus Professor Dr
Anisuzzman and National Professor Dr Zamilur Reza Chowdhury.

It condoled also the death of noted personalities, deputy speaker Md
Fazle Rabbi Miah’s wife Anwara Rabbi, former chief whip Abul Hasnat
Abdullah’s wife and freedom fighter Shahan Ara Begum, former minister
AK Faizul Haque’s wife Mariam Begum, lawmaker ABM Fazle Karim
Chowdhury’s elder brother ABM Fazle Rabbi Chowdhury, father of MP
Gloria Jorna Sunshanta Sarker, former cabinet secretary and former
chairman of Public Service Commission Dr Sadat Hossain, noted
educationist principal Nilufar Manzur, Ekushey Padak winner Prof Dr
Majibur Rahman, Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat Bangladesh chairman Nurul Islam
Hashemi, Dhaka Abahani Limited director Golam Rabbani Helal, music
director Azad Rahman, Abdul Momen Limited chairman and managing
director Abdul Momen and first cameraperson of Bangladesh Television
Rozina Akter.

Besides, the Parliament expressed deep shock at the death of the
doctors, health workers, members of administration and police,
political leaders, media personnel, businessmen and others who died of
COVID-19 in the country and abroad.

It also mourned the death of the people who were died due to cyclone
Amphan in Bangladesh and West Bengal of India, and conveyed sympathy
to the bereaved families.

Before passing the condolence motion, Leader of the House and Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina took part in the discussion on it.

Describing Habibur Rahman Mollah as a popular politician, the Prime
Minister said the AL lawmaker was one of those who always stayed
beside her on the way of her life.

Talking about Jatiya Mohila Parishad chairman Mamtaz Begum, Sheikh
Hasina said: “Mamtaz apa and I joined many movements together.”

The country is going through a standoff situation due to the
coronavirus pandemic, she said, adding so there is no chance to join
and console the family members of the people who died during the
COVID-19 crisis.

AL lawmakers Matia Chowdhury, ASM Firoz and Assaduzzman, Jasad MP
Hasanul Haque Inu and opposition chief whip Mashiur Rahman Ranga also
took part in the discussion on the condolence motion.

After the condolence motion was adopted, a munajat was offered
seeking eternal peace of the departed souls.
