Maintain continuity of government to build prosperous Bangladesh: PM
SANGSAD BHABAN, June 23, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina today called for maintaining the continuity of the government for establishing a developed and prosperous Bangladesh.
“I believe that we will be able to provide urban facilities to the rural people by turning every village into a city through executing our development plan if the continuation of the government is maintained,” she said.
The prime minister was delivering her speech in the House on the occasion of the 69th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Awami League.
The prime minister said Awami League founded by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been serving the people and will continue to do it.
“We are honouring the confidence and trust that the people have kept in us and will continue to respect it,” she said.
The Leader of the House said Bangladesh has been put on a dignified position and the people of the world now know the country as a role model of development.
“The people of the world don’t know Bangladesh as a country of poverty and natural disasters and they don’t think that the country is run by others help,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina said the Father of the Nation had dreamt of establishing a hunger and poverty-free developed and prosperous Bangladesh. “To materialise his dream, our government has been working with the 7th five-year plan,” she said.
The premier said when her party was in opposition, it also worked with such a plan and the nation is now getting its benefit.
Bangladesh, she said, has now been put on a dignified position on the world stage for which Bangabandhu liberated Bangladesh. “It’s a rare incident in the history,” she said.
Pointing out that whatever achievements the Bangalee nation earned have come through the Awami League, she said the Father of the Nation not only liberated the country, he also showed the path of the socioeconomic development of the country.
“Bangabandhu established war-ravaged Bangladesh as a least developed country within three and a half years of independence and it’s a rare incident in the history,” she said.
The premier said the country’s economic condition is now much developed and it has been possible due to goals and policy of the Awami League. “The party never thought about few people, rather it undertook development plans keeping the grassroots people in the mind,” she said.
At the outset her speech, the prime minister recalled with profound respect the contributions of Bangabandhu, Maulana Bhashani and founding general secretary of the party Shamsul Huq and others who were involved in establishing the Awami League.
