31st span of Padma Bridge to be installed tomorrow

MUNSHIGANJ, June 9, 2020 (BSS) – The 31st span of the 6.15-kilometre long Padma Bridge would be installed on the 25th and 26th pillars in the district tomorrow morning amid the ongoing coronavirus(COVID-19)crisis.

Padma Multipurpose Bridge Executive Engineer Dewan Abdul Quader told BSS today. He said the 150-meter-long span named ‘5-A’ will be installed in the middle point of Shimulia-Kathalbari channel and it will help connect the Mawa part directly from the Jajira end of the bridge.

As a result movement of all types of ferry, launch, speedboat, trawler and boats will remain suspended from 11:00am to 7:00pm in this connection.

Along with the span installation, construction work of roadway slabs and railway slabs will also be done simultaneously, Padma Bridge sources said.

As per the project details, the construction of the much awaited Padma Bridge is going on in full swing amid the coronavirus situation with the target of completing it within the stipulated time.

On October 14, 2018, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unveiled the name plaque of Padma Bridge Toll Plaza at the Mawa end.

According to experts, the national economy is expected to witness 1.2 percent GDP growth rate, while 0.84 percent poverty will be reduced every year after completion of the bridge to be built with an estimated cost of Taka 30,193.39 crore.

The first span of the Padma Bridge was installed on September 30, 2017.
