CHATTOGRAM, May 31, 2020 (BSS) – Things started to look from bad to worse as a highest record of 279 people including a city corporation councilor and four prison guards have tested positive for coronavirus in Chattogram district after testing 1219 people in last 24 hours.
Of them, 180 are from Chattogram city and 99 from different upazilas of the district were found positive for coronavirus in the three COVID-19 laboratories .
Among the new victims is Mohammad Shafiul Alam, ward councilor of North Central Halishahar No. 36 ward of Chattogram City Corporation. Besides, four other prison guards of Chattogram Central Jail aged about 22, 23, 25 and 26 have been identified as corona positive.
Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS that 120 more new COVID-19 patients were identified at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) after testing 260 samples in last 24
hours.
Meanwhile, 116 more new COVID-19 patients were identified at BITID Chattogram after testing 816 samples in last two days.
A total of 42 new COVID-19 patients were identified at CVASU, Chattogram after testing 148 samples, the civil surgeon said.
With this, the total numbers of COVID-19 patients rose to 2867 only in Chattogram district till today.
So far, 76 people died in Chattogram district due to COVID-19 and 217 persons were released from the hospital after recovery, the sources added.
