1,933 medical teams kept ready to treat cyclone victims

DHAKA, May 20, 2020 (BSS) – The health ministry has kept ready 1,933 medical teams in coastal districts to provide emergency medical services to the cyclone victims.

Of the total 1,933 teams, 1212 teams are in Chattogram, 303 in Khulna and 418 in Barishal.

Md Habibur Rahman Khan, Additional Secretary of Health Services Division, said these teams will provide medicines and other emergency health services to 14 to 20 lakh people staying in cyclone shelters, said an official release.

Habibur Rahman, also convenor of the media cell, said the cell has been formed to provide health related emergency and latest information to people.

At present, there are 14 COVID-19 dedicated hospitals in Dhaka City. Besides, a temporary hospital with 2,000-bed capacity has been prepared for COVID-19 patients at the Bashundhara Convention Centre in the city.

A total of 110 COVID dedicated hospitals have been kept ready to treat coronavirus patients across the country, Rahman added.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said a total of 2,03,852 samples have so far been tested at 43 PCR labs since the detection of the first COVID-19 cases in the country.

Of the total 43 PCR labs, 22 labs are in Dhaka city and 21 outside the capital, she said adding, in the past 24 hours, United Hospital Limited has been included in the list of testing activities of COVID-19 cases.
