25 more test positive for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 19, 2020 (BSS) – Twenty-five more people were tested
positive for coronavirus today at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in
Rangpur and Dinajpur raising the total number of patients to 628 in
Rangpur division.

The new 25 infected patients were diagnosed after testing a total
of 376 samples at the two laboratories in Rangpur division today.

“Sixteen patients were reported positive after testing 188 samples
at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) today,”
said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force
and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

Among the 16 new patients, 15 hailed from different areas of Rangpur
metropolis and one sexagenarian man from Kolkond union of Gangachara
upazila of Rangpur district.

“The 15 patients of the metropolis include a doctor of Rangpur
Medical College Hospital, its two Ansar members, three police
personnel and an employee of Corporate Branch of Janata Bank Limited
and eight common citizens,” Dr. Lyzu added.

Meanwhile, nine new infected patients were found after testing 188
samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at MARMC in Dinajpur today.

“The nine new patients include six of Sadar, Parbatipur and Kaharole
upazilas in Dinajpur and three of Haripur, Baliadangi and Pirganj
upazilas of Thakurgaon,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh
Sarker told BSS at 8:10 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur
division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 rose to 628
in Rangpur division with the infection of newly diagnosed 25 patients
today.

“The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 patients now stands at
294 in Rangpur, 24 in Panchagarh, 64 in Nilphamari, 27 in Lalmonirhat,
57 in Kurigram, 39 in Thakurgaon, 99 in Dinajpur and 24 Gaibandha
districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
