JS body for strengthening economic diplomacy amid pandemic

DHAKA, May 17, 2020 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Foreign Affairs Ministry today suggested strengthening economic diplomacy to sustain orders of ready-made garments sector and keep international supply chain intact to limit the country’s financial fallout amid and post COVID-19 pandemic period.

The parliamentary watchdog came up with the call at its 12th meeting held at Sangsad Bhaban here with committee chairman Muhammad Faruk Khan in the chair, an official release said.

Committee members Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, Md Habibe Millat, Nahim Razzaque and Kazi Nabil Ahmed took part in the meeting.

During the meeting, head of Corona related cell of foreign ministry Dr Khalilur Rahman gave a presentation describing the measures taken by the ministry in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in the country that include repatriation of Bangladeshis as well as foreigners amid flight suspension.

Secretaries concerned and senior officials of the foreign ministry and JS Secretariat were present.
