Jabbar mourns musician Azad’s death

DHAKA, May 16, 2020 (BSS) – Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar today expressed deep shock at the death of eminent singer and composer Azad Rahman.

In a condolence message, he said Azad Rahman was a lighthouse of the country’s music industry and made a great contribution to this area.

The nation will always remember his contributions with deep respect, he said.

Jabbar said country’s music industry suffered an irreparable loss at the demise of Azard Rahman, which will never be filled up.

The minister also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Azad Rahman passed away at the Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the city this afternoon. He was 76.

He left behind his wife, three daughters, and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.

Azad, also a music director and filmmaker, used to practice khayal, a modern genre of Hindustani classical music, along with other classical music.

Born on January 1 in 1944 in Bardhaman, India, Azad Rahman obtained his bachelor (Honours) degree in Khayal from Rabindra Bharati University.

He started his career as a music director with working in the Kolkata Bangla movie Miss Priyonboda.

The noted musician received several awards, including National Film Award in the best music director and singer category.
