24 more test positive for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 16, 2020 (BSS) – Twenty-four more people were tested
positive for coronavirus today at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in
Rangpur and Dinajpur raising the total number of patients to 507 in
Rangpur division.

Health officials said the new 24 infected patients were found after
testing a total of 376 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories today
in Rangpur division.

Of them, 19 patients were found after testing 188 samples at the
COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC),” said Chief of
Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal
of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

The new infected patients include five policemen and six civilians
of Rangpur metropolis and eight others of Sadar and Phulbari upazilas
of Kurigram district, Professor Dr. Lyzu added.

Meanwhile, five new infected patients were found after testing 188
samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at MARMC in Dinajpur today.

“The five new patients include three of different areas in Dinajpur
and two of Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr.
Shibesh Sarker told BSS at 8 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19
rose to 507 today excluding the infected people as per test reports
received from Dhaka tonight.

“The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 patients stands at 223
in Rangpur, 19 in Panchagarh, 64 in Nilphamari, 23 in Lalmonirhat, 50
in Kurigram, 34 in Thakurgaon, 70 in Dinajpur and 24 Gaibandha
districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
