Record 62 test positive for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 15, 2020 (BSS) – A record number of 62 more people were tested positive for coronavirus in a single day today in different districts raising the total number of patients to 467 in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the new 62 infected patients were reported after testing samples at the COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur and National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Centre (NILMRC) in Dhaka city.

Of them, 31 infected patients were reported after testing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu told BSS tonight.

The new infected patients include five policemen, 10 Ansar members of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH), 11 other people of different areas in Rangpur metropolis and one each of Pirganj and Pirgachha upazilas of Rangpur alone.

“Besides, they include one each of Nageswari and Bhurungamari upazilas of Kurigram and another person of Lalmonirhat now undergoing treatment at the RMCH,” Professor Dr. Lyzu added.

Meanwhile, 12 new infected patients were reported after testing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at MARMC in Dinajpur today.

“The 12 new patients include four each of different areas in Dinajpur and Panchagarh, three of Thakurgaon and one from Mymensingh districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker told BSS at 8:20 pm.

Talking to BSS tonight, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said 19 more people were tested positive for coronavirus after testing samples at the NILMRC in Dhaka city today.

“The 19 new patients include six of different places in Rangpur city and two of Pirganj upazila in Rangpur, nine of five different upazilas in Nilphamari and one each of Sadar and Nababganj upazila in Dinajpur districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

With the newly reported 52 coronavirus positive cases, the total number of infected patients rose to 467 in all eight districts of Rangpur division today.

“The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 infected patients now stands at 209 in Rangpur, 19 in Panchagarh, 62 in Nilphamari, 18 in Lalmonirhat, 42 in Kurigram, 28 in Thakurgaon, 64 in Dinajpur and 25 Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
