Dr Wazed’s 11th death anniversary observed in Rangpur

RANGPUR, May 9, 2020 (BSS) – The 11th death anniversary of noted nuclear
scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr M A Wazed Miah was
observed in a befitting manner in the district today.

Different organisations chalked out limited programmes in observance of
the death anniversary strictly maintaining physical distance due to the
present situation caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Pirganj upazila administration, Dr Wazed Foundation, Pirganj upazila Awami
League (AL), family of Dr Wazed, Dr Wazed Smriti Sangsad, educational
institutions and other originations observed the death anniversary.

The programmes included placing of wreaths at the grave of Dr. Wazed in his
ancestral village of Laldighee Fatehpur under Pirganj upazila, offering
Fateha, Ziyarat and doa mahfil, distribution of food and Iftar items to the
poor and orphans.

Leaders of the district and Pirganj upazila Awami League (AL), its
associate bodies and family members placed wreaths at the grave of Dr. Wazed,
offered Fateha and special munajats maintaining physical distance.

President of Dr MA Wazed Foundation and Vice-president of district AL AKM
Chhayadat Hossain Bakul, Pirganj Municipality Mayor and General Secretary of
Pirganj upazila AL Tazimul Islam Shamim, Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer TM
Momin and President of district Chhatra League Mehedee Hasna Rony placed
wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed.

Dr. Wazed Smriti Sangsad organised milad followed by a doa mahfil at
Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque in Rangpur city after Asr prayers and offered special
munajats seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Dr. Wazed and well-
being of his family members.

The nuclear scientist with international repute was born on February 16,
1942 in a respectable Muslim family of village Laldighee Fatehpur in Pirganj
upazila of the district.

He died on May 9, 2009.

He was laid to eternal rest with full state honour at their family
graveyard in his paternal village Laldighee Fatehpur.
