Record 38 test positive for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 8, 2020 (BSS) – The record number of 38 people were tested positive for coronavirus in a day after diagnosing 282 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur of Rangpur division today.

“The total number of infected patients sharply rose to 300 with the detection of the new 38 positive people in Rangpur division today,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The 38 newly infected patients include 31 of Rangpur, five of Nilphamari and two of Dinajpur districts.

“We detected 31 new patients after testing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RMC) today,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said.

“The 31 newly detected patients at COVID-19 Laboratory at RMC today include 30 of different areas in Rangpur metropolitan city, including 11 policemen and one of Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur district,” Dr. Lyzu added.

On the other hand, seven new infected patients were detected after testing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College ((MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

Talking to BSS, Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker said the seven newly infected patients include two of Biral upazila in Dinajpur and five of Sadar, Dimla and Jaldhaka upazilas in Nilphamari districts.

As on Friday, the district-wise break of the COVID-19 patients stands at 120 in Rangpur, 11 in Panchagarh, 38 in Nilphamari, 12 in Lalmonirhat, 33 in Kurigram, 24 in Thakurgaon, 38 in Dinajpur and 24 Gaibandha districts in Rangpur division.
