3 more public representatives suspended over relief scam
DHAKA, April 30, 2020 (BSS) – Three more public representatives, including
one Union Parishad (UP) chairman and one member and one municipality
councilor, have been suspended for irregularities in distributing relief
goods.
The Local Government Division (LGD) of the LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry
today issued separate notifications in this regard.
A total of 42 public representatives, including 17 UP chairmen, 23 UP
members, one Zila Parishad member and one municipality councilor, have so far
been suspended over the relief scam, said a press release.
The suspended public representatives were Md Amanat Ullah Alamgir, Manpura
UP chairman of Manpura Upazila under Bhola district, Raju Ahmmed, 6 No ward
councilor of Charghat Pourashava of Charghat Upazila under Rajshahi district
and Nazmin Akter Lovely, member of 1, 2 and 3 No women reserved ward of
Mankon UP of Muktagacha upazila under Mymensingh district.
The notifications mentioned that they have been suspended temporarily for
various reasons including, embezzlement of relief and VGF rice and collecting
extortion in the name of relief.
Besides, separate showcase notices were served on them asking to send their
replies to the LGD through respective deputy commissioners (DCs) within 10
working days from the date of receiving notices, explaining why they should
not be removed permanently from their posts.
