DHAKA, April 30, 2020 (BSS) – Qaumi madrasa leaders today highly praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving financial assistance of over Taka 8.31 crore to the Qaumi madrasas on the occasion of the holy Ramadan amid the coronavirus situation.

“Like the previous time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has extended her helping hands to the country’s madrasas amid the coronavirus situation, which has strengthened our morale,” Mawlana Md Younus Ali, Rangpur divisional coordinator of the Qaumi madrasah and vice-principal of Al Jamiatul Karimia Nurul Ulum Madrasah, told BSS this afternoon after receiving the donation.

He said a total of 703 madrasas in Rangpur division have already received the donation through electronic fund transfer.

“We wish long life and good health of the prime minister and pray so that the COVID-19 situation comes under control soon,” Ali said.

He said that they (Qaumi madrasa leaders) are also praying for the premier so that she can tackle the situation efficiently, even if, the situation lingers.

Hailing the prime minister for giving financial assistance to the Qaumi madrasas, Senior Muhaddis of Khulna Darul Ulum Madrasa and Senior Vice President of Khulna Qaumi Ulama Parishad Mawlana Nasir Uddin Qasemi said it is a noble gesture of the premier to improve the quality of madrasa education.

“It will remain a unique example for not only Bangladesh, but also for the whole world,” he added.

Noting that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina dedicated herself to serving the Islam, Qasemi said none of those, who were in state power in the past, didn’t serve the Islam like the current prime minister.

“Our prime minister has taken various steps for expansion of Islam following the footprints of her father Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he said, wishing her long life and good health.

Principal of Al Mahad As-Saladi Madrasa in Khulna city Maulana Abdullah Al Mamun said this initiative (providing financial assistance) by the prime minister will inspire all the people involved in qaumi madrasas.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resolved the discrimination in madrasah education by recognizing the Dawra-e Hadith Certificate in Qawmi madrasa with the status of postgraduate degrees of Islamic Studies and Arabic,” he said.

Maulana Mamun added: “She (premier) has been working untiringly for expansion of Islam.”

Appreciating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for allocation of Taka 8.31 crore for qaumi madrasas in this perilous time, Mufti Shahadat Ali, Principal of Jameya Islamia Shahmukhdum in Rajshahi, said it is the first time of the country’s history that a government has come forward with financial support for the qaumi madrasas.

“That’s why Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the right person to get heartfelt recognition and appreciation from the qaumi madrasas,” he added.

“We’ve already got allocation of Taka 20,000 for my madrasa and we’ll spend the money for welfare of the students,” Mufti Ali said.

Mufti Ali noted that only the poor and helpless children come to the qaumi madrasas for institutional learning. “So, the support will encourage them in learning immensely,” he added.

Professor Barkullah Bin Durul Huda of the Department of Islamic Studies in Rajshahi University said that the financial assistance by the premier will help take the qaumi madrasa education to one step forward.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) sources, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given financial assistance of Taka 8 crore 31 lakh and 25 thousand to 6,959 qaumi madrasas of the country on the occasion of the holy Ramadan.
