Octogenarian COVID-19 patient recovers in Rangpur

(Recasts)

RANGPUR, April 29, 2020 (BSS) – An 80-year-old coronavirus patient today
returned home from a hospital with a discharge certificate declaring him
“recovered”, nearly one and half months after he was diagnosed with the
deadly COVID-19 and hospitalized.

“Courage of a COVID-19 patient is the most vital factor for recovery,”
Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital (DCIH) superintendent Dr. SM NurunNabi
told BSS as octogenarian Md Moslem Uddin was treated at the makeshift
facility, an extension of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Fellow doctors at the unit said their patient kept up his spirit and
confidence that helped him getting healed while coronavirus patients of his
age are considered critically vulnerable in most cases for different reasons.

Doctors, nurses and staff of the facility bade a farewell to Moslem Uddin
with a bunch of flowers alongside the discharge certificate while he came out
with a broad smile on the face.

“Family members of coronavirus infected patients should be courageous too
and properly abide by the health directives and take care of their infected
family members to get them recovered easily at home,” Nabi said.

Talking to BSS, Moslem Uddin said that he returned to Rangpur city from
Dhaka on April 1 after attending a month-long TablighiJamaat and fell sick
with symptoms of the deadly virus.

He reported to the RMCH where he was tested COVID-19 positive on April 16
and admitted to the makeshift unit of the hospital.

“I received unbelievably excellent treatment and care . . . I am thankful
to the doctors, nurses, staff and cleaners, they treated me like a close
relative of theirs” said Moslem Uddin.

He was finally tested COVID-19 negative in two subsequent screening after
his condition appeared better ahead of his discharge from the hospital.
