Over 3 cr people get reliefs amid COVID-19 pandemic

DHAKA, April 28, 2020 (BSS) – Over three crore people across the country have been given relief materials to mitigate their sufferings in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

A total of 1,03,535 metric tons of rice has been allocated for the poor people, who are facing economic hardship due to adverse impact of coronavirus. Of the allocated rice, 82, 806 metric tons were distributed, an official release said today.

Over three crore people of 74,47,201 families have been benefited from this rice distribution programme.

A total of Taka 44,78,99,164 has been allocated as financial assistance in 64 districts of the country and Taka 37,28,72,948 has been distributed to eliminate people’s financial crisis.

As a result, the number of beneficiary families stands at 42 lakh 21 thousand 524 and the number of beneficiary people is one crore 88 lakh 13 thousand 551.

A total of 1,88,13,551 people of 42,21,524 have been selected for the financial assistance.

Meanwhile, the state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is selling essential commodities across the country through 505 trucks during the holy month of Ramadan.

About 716 metric tons of soybean oil, 503 metric tons of sugar, 101 metric tons of lentils (Mosur) pulses, 316 metric tons of gram (Chhola), 35 metric tons of dates and 34 metric tons of onions were sold among 202,000 people yesterday with the help of around 3000 dealers.
