Salman for re-opening factories after assessing COVID-19 pandemic

DHAKA, April 25, 2020 (BSS) – Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman today said factories would be re-opened in phases through following proper health codes alongside assessing of COVID-19 pandemic situation.

Re-open measures for factories should be taken very carefully as the entire country is experiencing the outbreak of coronavirus, he said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) in the city, said a press release.

FBCCI organized the discussion while leaders of the different business organizations and chambers, including Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BEMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA) attended the meeting.

FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim moderated the discussion.

At the meeting, business leaders, economists, media personalities and experts called for re-opening of micro, small and medium enterprises, including the country’s export-oriented industries through ensuring necessary health protection in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Although the whole world is battling against coronavirus, different virus-hit countries are slowly opening their main industries, Salman said. “We need to take such steps for re-opening vital industries to avoid adverse economic fallouts,” he added.

Sheikh Fahim said the FBCCI has been working with the Ministry of Finance and Commerce, the Prime Minister’s Office, Bangladesh Bank and various business organizations to fight against coronavirus from the very beginning.

“The government is working with the World Health Organization (WHO), the ILO and other organizations on how to gradually open up the country’s industrial plants,” he added.

Former FBCCI President Mir Nasir Hossain, Matlub Ahmed and AK Azad, Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam and Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman also took part at the discussion.
