2 Chhatra Dal leaders among 3 sued in Savar for spreading rumours

SAVAR, April 24, 2020 (BSS) – Three people, including two Chhatra Dal
leaders, were sued in Savar for allegedly spreading rumours posting a photo
on social media and saying that a woman cut off her hair to sell those to buy
food of her baby.

Rajim Bhuiyan Mishu, a resident of Savar municipality, filed the case
against them with Savar Model Police Station on Thursday night. The case was
filed under the Digital Security Act.

The accused in the case are Chhatra Dal leader Rajib Mahmud (32), former
Chhatra Dal leader Obaidur Rahman Ovi (50) and editor of a local newspaper
Omar Faruq.

According to the case statement, one Sathi bladed her head one and half
months ago after she suffered from severe itching and dandruff on her scalp.
But, Rajib Mahmud posted a photo of the hair of the woman on a Facebook page
on April 21 last.

Later, Omar Faruq shared the post on his Facebook post. Subsequently,
rumours were spread in Savar that the woman sold her hair for want of food
amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Inspector (investigation) of Savar Model Police Station Saiful Islam said
the case was filed against the three persons under the Digital Security Act
and police are conducting a probe into the case.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the Savar upazila administration issued a press
release, terming the incident a false, baseless and fabricated one.
