53 women get sewing machines, cash in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Aug 18, 2017 (BSS) – A total of 53 poor women of Sundarganj upazila received sewing machines and cash under’SHOUHARDO-111′ program on Thursday to change their socio economic condition.

A simple distribution ceremony was held on the occasion at the auditorium of Chandipur Union Parishad (UP) Complex of the upazila yesterday.

SHOUHARDO-111,a women poverty alleviation program ,is being implemented by the local NGO ‘SKS Foundation’ aimed at empowering the women through engaging themselves in income generating activities.

The distribution ceremony was arranged in cooperation with CARE Bangladesh and the financial support of USAID and Government of Bangladesh.

Local lawmaker Golam Mostafa Ahmed addressed the ceremony as the chief guest while UNO SM Golam Kibria presided over the ceremony.

UP Chairman Rashedul Islam, project manager Shankar Kumar Roy, supervisor Firoz Akter and beneficiary woman Moslema Khatun spoke on the occasion.

Golam Mostafa Ahmed urged the beneficiary women to utilize the sewing machines and the cash properly to change their lots.

He also thanked the officials concerned for introducing the SHOUHARDO program in the upazila for eradicating the poverty to build a poor and hunger free Bangladesh.

UNO SM Golam Kibria assured all of giving his administrative help and assistance to run the programme in the upazila peacefully to attain its cherished goal.

Later, Golam Mostafa Ahmed, MP, formally handed over the sewing machines and cash to the women as the chief guest.
