8 more test positive for coronavirus in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 21, 2020 (BSS) – Eight more people have tested positive for
coronavirus (COVID-19) today at the Covid-19 laboratory set up at the
Department of Microbiology of Rangpur Medical College (RMC).

Health officials said that the number of Covid-19 patients rose to 60 as
eight fresh cases were detected in the last 24 hours.

“After testing samples of 188 persons at the laboratory, eight positive
cases were detected today,” said Chief of the Divisional Coronavirus Service
and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi
Laizu.

Among the newly infected COVID-19 patients, two returned from Narayanganj,
two others got infected after coming in contact with infected patients while
the history of four other infected patients could not be known immediately.

The newly COVID-19 infected patients include a health worker of Mithapukur
Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur.

Of the new cases, two were detected in Rangpur district, two each in
Dinajpur and Thakurgaon and one each in Panchagarh and Nilphamari district.

Earlier, three working physicians, including two of Mithapukur Upazila
Health Complex in Rangpur and one of Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex in
Nilphamari district were tested positive for COVID-19.

“Most of the newly detected COVID-19 patients recently returned from Dhaka,
Narayanganj and Gazipur districts, while some others got infected after
coming in contact with COVID-19 patients and history of infection of few
others are yet to be known,” Dr. Laizu added.
