DHAKA, June 18, 2018 (BSS)- Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed today said
general people celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr joyfully because the prices of
essential commodities were within their purchasing capacity.

“Prices of essential commodities remained at tolerable level as there was
sufficient stock of all commodities in the country,” said commerce minister
Tofail Ahmed while exchanging Eid greetings with officials and employees of
his minister today, the first day after Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

Tofail praised media for positive reporting on the commodity markets.

Replying to a question, the minister said the court has sentenced Khaleda
Zia to jail in a corruption case and the government has nothing to do.

BNP leaders have been trying to free her and they can wage movement for
her release but if they try to resort to destructing activities including
arson attacks like 2013-2014, their movement will fail because people do not
support such atrocities, he added.

He said there will be no caretaker or supportive-government during
elections. The next parliament elections will be held under Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina.

Replying to another question about the treatment of BNP chairperson Begum
Khaleda Zia, Tofail said BNP always demand for deployment of army during
elections but it does not rely on army-run hospital for Begum Zia’s
treatment.
