Restriction intensified to fight coronavirus in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, April 3, 2020 (BSS) – Local district administration with the help
of the armed forces and other law-enforcement agencies has intensified
restriction on movement and public gatherings to stem the rampant spread of
the coronavirus in the region.

Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque asked the people not to gather in groups;
besides, non-essential movement on the roads and other public places has been
discouraged to contain the spread of the virus.

The government has provided food assistance to around 60,800 poor families
in the district to overcome their financial hardship caused the coronavirus
(COVID-19) outbreak.

District administration has allocated around 608 tonnes of rice for the
purpose besides Taka 12 lakh has been allocated as cash money.

“We have a stock of 165 tonnes more rice and Taka 4.05 lakh cash for
further distribution,” he said adding the low-income villagers are also
getting support from local government funds.

He said the district and police administrations have taken hard-line
against spreading rumors related to the virus. Over the past three days,
mobile courts fined 112 people with a total of more than Taka one lakh for
spreading rumors related on COVID-19 in the district.

“Mobile courts led by executive magistrates found the people guilty of the
charges,” Abu Aslam, additional district magistrate, said here today.

He said the people were found involved in spreading various rumors in
different areas in Rajshahi city, Godagari, Puthiya, Bagmara, Bagha, Tanore
and Durgapur upazilas through Facebook and other social media which are
harmful for society as well as the public life.
