Nation celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr with due solemnity

DHAKA, June 16, 2018 (BSS) – The nation today is celebrating the Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the greatest religious festivals of the Muslims, amid due solemnity, fervour, enthusiasm and gaiety ending the holy Ramadan, the month of fasting and abstinence.

The very auspicious occasion began with the sighting of the Shawwal moon last evening and reached the climax this morning amid offering the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers by millions from all strata of life at mosques, eidgahs and makeshift prayer venues in the capital and elsewhere across the country.

During munajats after Eid congregations (jamaats), the Muslims also prayed for divine blessings to help strengthen national unity against all odds and destructive activities, including terrorism and militancy.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the countrymen as well as the Muslims across the world on occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

The country’s main Eid jamaat (congregation) in the capital was held at the National Eidgah on the Bangladesh Supreme Court premises at 8.30 in the morning.

President Abdul Hamid offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers along with hundreds of people from all walks of life at the National Eidgah.

Cabinet members, judges of the Supreme Court, members of parliament, senior political leaders and high civil and military officials also offered prayers at the main Eid congregation.

Senior Pesh Imam of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram Hafez Maulna Muhammad Mizanur Rahman conducted the main Eid jamaat.

The biggest Eid congregation of the country on Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj was held at 10 this morning.

Bangladesh Railway was operated Solakia special trains on Bhoirab-Kishoreganj-Bhoirab and Mymensingh-Kishoreganj-Mymensingh routes on the day for carrying passengers to and from the Sholakia Eidgah Maidan.

In Dhaka, five Eid congregations were held at the Baitul Muqarram National Mosque at 7 am, 8 am, 9 am, 10 am and 10 am.

A total of 409 Eid congregations were held in the capital under the two city corporations.

Of those, 230 Eid congregations were held under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the rest 179 Eid congregations under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

Another Eid jamaat was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 8:00am. Chief Whip ASM Firoz, Whip Md Atiur Rahman Atik, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim, Science and Technology Minister Architect Yafes Osman, Textiles and Jute Minister Md Imaj Uddin, lawmakers, officials and employees of Parliament Secretariat participated in the jamaat, an official release said.

After the jamaat, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury exchanged greetings with the devotees.

Two Eid jamaats were held at Dhaka University central mosque. The first Jamaat was held at 8 am. The second jamaat was held at 9 am. Besides, two Eid congregations were held at SM Hall and Shahidullah Hall of the university at 8am.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University arranged Eid jamaat at 8am at its central mosque.

Members of law enforcement agencies, including police and the anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), ensured a foolproof security in the areas around the National Eidgah and all other Eid jamaat venues and their vicinity.

However, no untoward incidents were reported from anywhere during the Eid congregations.

Besides, Eid congregations were also held on Khilkhet Kurmitola High School Eidgah Maidan, Matuail Eidgah Maidan, RK Mission Road Brothers Union Ground, Banani Pak Darbar Sharif, Kantaban Jame Mosque, Dhaka University Playground, Salimullah Hall Gate Ground, Uttara Jame Mosque Foundation, Shantibagh Shahi Jame Mosque, Abu Jar Gifari College Ground, Malibagh Jame Mosque, Hazaribagh Park, Tikatuli Jame Mosque and Uttar Kafrul Jheelpar Jame Mosque.

Eid jamaats also took place at Gulshan First Jame Mosque, Khilgaon Pallima Sangsad, Maghbazar Kazi Office Lane Baitul Quran Masjid, Sheikhdi Al Hera Jame Mosque at Jatrabari, Fazlul Haq Muslim Hall, Lalbagh Shahi Jame Mosque, Lalbagh Kella Jame Mosque, Al Madina Jame Mosque, Senpara Parbata Eidgah and Nayapaltan Jame Mosque, Mirpur-12 D Block Eidgah, Baitul Falah Complex at Pallabi, Maghbazar T&T Jame Mosque and Matuail Eidgah.

More Eid jamaats were held in different areas of the metropolis including Khejurbagan Jame Mosque, APBN Jame Mosque, Baitul Noor Jame Mosque, Shantinagar Aminbagh Jame Mosque, Garangira Complex and Mohammadpur Jame Mosque, Old Police Lines Jame Mosque, Islampur Jame Mosque, and Armanitola Play Ground.

Outside of the capital, Eid jamaats were held across the country, particularly in the divisional cities and district towns.

People, soon after the Eid prayers, embraced each other and exchanged greetings in a spirit of unity, fraternity and equality as enshrined in Islam. They are now visiting the houses of their relatives, friends and neighbours to greet them.

Divisional, district and upazila administrations and local government bodies have taken preparations in their respective areas to observe the Eid-ul-Fitr.

City corporations have kept open the children parks, allowing free entry of all visitors on the occasion of Eid.

Eid-ul-Fitr is also being observed in Bangladesh missions abroad too in a befitting manner.

The government has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr with due respect and religious fervour.

The national flag has been hoisted at government, autonomous and non-government offices and other important establishments on the occasion.

Important traffic islands and light posts in Dhaka city have also been decorated with miniature national flags and flags inscribed with “Eid Mubarak”.

Besides, designated government offices and other establishments have been illuminated.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels have arranged special programmes while newspapers already published supplements on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Improved diets are being served to hospitals, jails and orphanages. The government has already declared a three-day public holiday that began on Friday.

Our Chattogram office report: The holy Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrating today in the Port city as elsewhere in the district with due religious fervor and gaiety despite rains.

Eid prayers held in mosques and other outdoor locations across the port city and its adjacent districts.

Back from prayers amid rains, people visit friends, relatives, neighbors and specially the eldest members of the families.

A total of 259 Eid congregations including three big ones at M A Aziz Stadium and Jamiatul Falah Mosque (2 successively at the same venue with half an hour interval) were held in the port city under the auspices of Chattogram Central Eid Jamaat Committee (CCEJC) and Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) respectively.

In Rajshahi, the main Eid jamaat (congregation) was held on Shahmukhdum (R) Central Eidgah at 8 am. Principal of Shahmukhdum (R) Jamiya Islamia Madrasa Mufti Shahadat Ali conducted the large prayers.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, City Mayor Musaddeque Hossain Bulbul, former RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, senior divisional and district level officials including Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Noor-Ur-Rahman and Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader and local elites offered their Eid prayers at the main Eid jamaat.

The second and third largest Eid congregations were held at Shaheb Bazar and Tikpara city Eidgah respectively at the same time.
