Young engineers claim to have developed robot to handle COVID patients

DHAKA, March 31, 2020 (BSS) – A group of young Bangladeshi engineers today claimed to have developed a low-cost robot to handle COVID-19 patients and assist doctors in treating them.

“The robot we developed will keep doctors and others concerned away from the COVID-19 patients and help assist their treatment providing six essential services,” said Mahedy Hasan, a mechancal engineer and faculty of a private university.

He said the robot was developed following a Chinese model of treating and handling COVID-19 patients, keeping all concerned to a safe distance as media reports suggested that the virus infected the doctors in Italy initially as they examined them from a close distance.

Hasan, a lecturer of private Sonargaon University, said Md Mainul Hasan led the four-member team including two students to develop the robot, each of which could cost as high as Taka 30,000.

“A doctor, staying at a control station, could handle several patients in quarantine centres and hospitals using the robots,” he said.

He called the group “Team savior BD” while gave a link to see the demonstration of the services of the robot they named “shebok” providing a link https://youtu.be/kyx688h-Jmo
