Shopping malls, markets witness a huge rush of Eid shoppers

DHAKA, June 14, 2018 (BSS) – Shopping malls and markets across the city
witnessed a huge rush of shoppers today as the countrymen are all set to
celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the
Muslims.

The rush also caused traffic jams at several places close to the shopping
malls, especially in the afternoon and evening hours, causing inconvenience
to commuters.

Shopping malls and markets are attracting people to purchase clothes,
shoes, kids-wear, home decoration and utensils ahead of Eid. Many shopping
malls are offering prizes to attract shoppers on the occasion of Eid
festival.

Businessmen expressed satisfaction over sale of the Eid clothes, shoes,
cosmetics and other goods and hoped that the sales would continue till the
night before the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.

Braving the heat, hawkers also made brisk sale of clothes, footwear,
imitation ornaments and cosmetics and other goods as these products are
generally purchased by low-income people ahead of Eid.

“We are facing huge rush of shoppers over the last two days. Women
shoppers are more in number and children’s products are also in high demand,”
said a seller of a cloth-shop in the city’s shopping mall.

“Most people are making huge purchases of all products, including garments,
cosmetics, shoes and some of them are spending lavishly,” said the seller who
sales garments for women and kids.

Many Eid shoppers also complained of overpricing, especially of women and
kids wear.

“I have completed shopping for this Eid. Today I have bought clothes for my
two kids and wife,” said Farooq, a private service-holder, who with his son
came to shop at Bashundhara City Shopping mall today.

“I have come to Bashundhara City to buy panjabis and saris for my parents
as I will leave for village home in Rangpur tonight to enjoy Eid with my
family,” said Zahis Hossain, a government official.

Female shoppers also thronged the cosmetic and imitation jewelry shops. “I
came to market to buy a pair of earrings to match with my Eid dress,” said
Shamima, a college student, who bought a pair of earrings for Tk 400 from
Gawchhia Market.

The city’s electronic gadget market, especially of TVs, also witnessed
huge number of customers as the greatest show on earth the FIFA World Cup
2018 will begin in Russia from today.
