SKOP demands keeping factories open now

DHAKA, March 22, 2020 (BSS)- Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (SKOP) leaders today demanded government measures to keep factories open now and strengthen health safety of labours inside factories in the wake of outbreak of novel coronavirus.

They came up with the demand at an urgent meeting on ‘what to do to tackle the COVID-19’ with State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian in the chair at Sram Bhaban conference room in the city’s Bijoy Sarani.

The labour leaders also demanded forming combined taskforce, providing doctors at every factory, and holding of a meeting of owners, labours and buyer groups.

The state minister assured them of considering the demands and said ensuring safety of labours is very important to the government.

If required, laborers will be provided financial assistance from Labour Welfare Foundation’s fund and central fund.

Labour and Employment Secretary K M Ali Azam, Additional Secretary Dr Rezaul Haque, Inspector General of Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Shib Nath Roy, Department of Labour Director General AKM Mizanur Rahman, Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra General Secretary Dr Wazedul Islam Khan, Bangladesh Garments Labour Federation President Advocate Delwar Hossain Khan and Jatiya Garments Labour Federation President Anwar Hossain, Bangladesh Trade Union Sangha President Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam and Samajtantrik Sramik Front president Rajekuzzaman Ratan attended the meeting, among others.
