BARVIDA demands reducing duty on reconditioned cars

DHAKA, March 19, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (BARVIDA) today demanded reducing the existing duty on the imported reconditioned cars.

Leaders of the BARVIDA made the demand at a pre-budget meeting at the National Board of Revenue (NBR) auditorium in the city.

NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem presided over the meeting while BARVIDA leaders and senior officials of the NBR attended it.

Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem said NBR would consider reducing the existing duty on the imported reconditioned cars in the next national budget for the fiscal 2020-21.

He said the demand for the car import will be increased in future as the country is moving forward by achieving higher growth. So, the government is focusing on producing cars in the country for fulfilling the demand, he added.

Earlier, the NBR Chairman joined another pre-budget meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Ceramic Manufacturers and Exporters Associations (BCMEA).

He said the government is making efforts to strengthen the country’s local industries. “But we have to think about the revenue collection of the government,” he added.
