DHAKA, March 18, 2020 (BSS) – All 77 Bangladesh missions abroad have
celebrated the inauguration of Birth Centenary of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner.
Most of the missions scaled down their celebration programme to avoid mass
gathering for ensuring public health safety due to deadly coronavirus
outbreak across the globe.
Bangladesh’s mission in Tokyo was the first to hold the celebration
programme on Tuesday by hoisting the national flag along with national anthem
as well as organized a discussion on the life and works of Bangabandhu and
his struggle over Bangladesh’s independence on the mission premises.
Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi joined Bangabandhu’s birth
centenary celebration by placing wreaths at his portrait at the chancery
building there.
High Commissioner Muhammad Imran along with the members of the mission
hoisted the national flag atop the mission to mark Bangabandhu’s birth
centenary and the National Children’s Day.
The Bangladesh permanent mission at the United Nations in New York also
celebrated the inauguration of Mujib Year by placing wreath at Bangabandhu’s
portrait and a discussion meeting.
At the discussion, Bangladesh’s permanent resident in the UN ambassador
Rabab Fatima said Bangladesh permanent mission has chalked out a plan to hold
different programme at the UN headquarters marking the birth centenary of the
Father of the Nation.
Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, D.C. also joined the nation and
elsewhere in the world — to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of the
architect of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman — offering
profound respect, deep gratitude and unalloyed love for the great leader.
The embassy celebrated Bangabandhu’s birth centenary in-house complying
with the guidelines of the US authorities to stop the spread of coronavirus.
In celebration of the day, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad
Ziauddin hoisted the national flag ceremoniously with the tune of the
national anthem being played and placed a wreath at the bust of Bangabandhu.
In his remarks, Ambassador Ziauddin paid rich tributes to the Father of
the Nation and Bangabandhu’s booming voice demanding a home for the oppressed
Bengalis reverberated around the world which finally leads to the birth of
Bangladesh.
Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa, Canada also celebrated the occasion
in an identical manner.
UNESCO celebrated the Mujib Year across the globe. Washington, D.C.
declared Mujib Year from March 17, 2020, to March 17, 2021, as a mark of
respect to Bangladesh’s founding leader. New York Senate, Michigan State and
Senate also paid special tributes to Bangabandhu.
At the celebration, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada Mizanur Rahman
unveiled a commemorative postal stamp which was released by the Canadian
Postal department marking the Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu.
In Beijing, Bangladesh ambassador to China Mahbub Uz Zaman hoisted the
national flag through a rendition of the national anthem and placed floral
wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman at the Embassy.
Ambassador Zaman said following the visionary foreign policy, articulated
by Bangabandhu, Bangladesh continues to achieve remarkable success in her
bilateral, multilateral and regional engagements.
A special documentary on Bangabandhu’s life, achievements and emergence of
Bangladesh was screened while different poetries on Bangabandhu and the
liberation war were recited on the embassy premises.
High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Australia Mohammad Sufiur Rahman along
with members of Bangladesh diaspora formally launched the “Mujib Year” by
flying balloons at the Chancery in Canberra while a booklet prepared for
Mujib Year titled – ‘Mujib: the architect of Bangladesh’ was released.
An exhibition of rare photos of Bangabandhu- has been arranged at the
Ouderland Library of the Chancery for display throughout the year.
The other Bangladesh missions in different countries including France,
Austria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Korea and Singapore celebrated the
inauguration of Mujib Year through various programmes.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, declared
the Mujib Barsho’ (Mujib Year) from March 17, 2020 to March 26, 2021 to let
the people know the life and works of the great leader.
