Free WiFi service launched in SCC

SYLHET, March 14, 2020 (BSS) – The government has launched free WiFi service in some 62 areas through 126 access points (APs) under Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) as part of the countrywide digitization process.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak on February 15 last inaugurated this free WiFi service of 10 megabyte with bandwidths in 100 square meter areas per second. Under this project, the city dwellers as well as all tourists will be able to enjoy free service using the password “Joy Bangla” with the username “Digital Bangladesh” as the service set identifier (SSID) system.

“Anyone can enter into the network writing ‘Digital Bangladesh’ as user’s name and the password ‘Joy Bangla’. . . The WiFi was introduced experimentally in Sylhet Mohanagar two months back,” Assistant Project Director Modhusudhan Chandra told BSS.

earlier, the work of the project in SCC was undertaken in 2017 at the estimated cost of Taka 30.20 crore and the project tenure will end June this year. Talking to BSS, Additional Deputy Commissioner (media) M Jedan Al Musa said as part of the digitalization programme, the internet protocol (IP) cameras, installed at different important parts of the city, would play a very significant role in controlling crime and maintaining traffic management in the city.
