Govt to reward 11 entrepreneurs’ on National Jute Day: Dastagir

DHAKA, March 5, 2020 (BSS) – The government will reward 11 individuals and institutions for their contribution to jute sector on the occasion of the 4th National Jute Day on 6 March.

Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi stated this after attending a meeting on the celebration of National Jute Day-2020.

“National Jute Day is being celebrated every year on March 6 to highlight the potential of the Golden Fiber. Tomorrow, National Jute Day will be celebrated nationwide for the fourth time with much enthusiasm,” said the minister.

“Jute cultivators, manufacturers, traders, entrepreneurs of multifaceted jute products, users, business associations, local dignitaries, print and electronic media, local public representatives and people of various categories of profession will be encouraged to promote the spread and raising awareness about jute and jute goods by celebrating the day,” Dastagir said.

During the meeting, it was stated that in the last season, the country produced 74.56 million bales of raw jute material.

Also, During the July-January period of this fiscal, export of jute and jute goods stood at $616.6 million which eventually has increased the income from this sector up 20.82% than the same period of the last fiscal.

Textile and Jute Secretary Lokman Hossain Mia was also present at the meeting, among others.

“Bangladesh’s heritage and culture are widely involved with jute industry. Products made of Jute are regarded as environmentally friendly products both at home and abroad,” he said.

This year’s National Jute Day slogan has been fixed as ‘Sonali Aansher Sonali Desh, Mujib Borshe Bangladesh’, added the secretary.

The inaugural program of Jute Day will be started from Officers’ Club tomorrow with Jute and Textile Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi in the chair.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing committee on Jute and Textile Mirza Azam will also attend the programme as special guests.
