RANGPUR, March 2, 2020 (BSS) – Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa at a workshop today laid maximum importance on strict enforcement of tobacco control laws for establishing a tobacco-free Rangpur city.
He expressed the view while addressing a workshop titled ‘Role of public representatives in establishing a tobacco-free Rangpur city’ held at conference room of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) in the city as the chief guest.
Mayor Mostafa said, “Without making a tobacco free Rangpur city, it is not possible to materialise the vision of building a clean, green and healthy city. So why, the RpCC will take all necessary steps to establish a tobacco- free Rangpur city first.”
“We will specially assign an officer to free the city from tobacco,” he said and called upon all other authorities concerned to strictly enforce the tobacco control laws for establishing a tobacco free Rangpur city.
The RpCC organised the workshop with assistance of Association for Community Development (ACD) in cooperation with Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids.
Presided over by Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Ruhul Amin Mian, Media Manager of SCC Amjad Hossain Shimul delivered a welcome speech in the workshop while its Programme Manager Mostafa Kamal discussed objectives of the event.
Advocacy Officer of ACD Md. Shariful Islam Shameem delivered multimedia presentation in the workshop discussing severe consequences of tobacco consumption.
