Strengthening safe delivery services at UHFWCs stressed

RANGPUR, Feb 25, 2020 (BSS) – Experts at a workshop here today stressed the need for strengthening safe delivery services at Union Health and Family Welfare Centres (UHFWCs) to avoid avoidable cesarean delivery and reduce
maternal and child deaths.

They made the observation at the day-long orientation workshop on
‘Strengthening round the clock safe delivery services at the union health and
family welfare centres’ at Kishoreganj upazila parishad auditorium in
Nilphamari district.

The Kishoreganj Upazila Department of Family Planning (DFP) organised the
event under management of the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services Unit
of Directorate General of Family Planning of the Ministry of Health and
Family Welfare.

The Family Welfare Assistants, Family Welfare Visitors, Family Planning
Inspectors, Family Planning Assistants, union chairmen and members, religious
leaders, NGO executives, journalists and civil society members participated
in the workshop.

Rangpur Divisional Director (Joint Secretary) of the DFP Md. Mahbub Alam
attended the workshop as chief guest with Kishoreganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer
Abul Kalam Azad in the chair.

Deputy Director (Local Government) for Nilphamari Motaleb Sarker, Civil
Surgeon of Nilphamari Dr. Ranjeet Kumar Barman, Deputy Director of the DFP
Md. Shahjahan, Kishoreganj upazila Chairman Shah Md. Abul Kalam Bari and
Upazila Family Planning Officer Mostafizur Rahman Patwari addressed as
special guests.

The Civil Surgeon said the government has strengthened round the clock safe
delivery services at UHFWCs with all modern facilities available there for
conducting normal deliveries at the union level to avoid unnecessary cesarean
delivery.

Md. Shahjahan said pregnant mothers can get all necessary services and
modern facilities there round the clock for conducting normal delivery of
babies at the union level following strengthening of safe delivery services
at the UHFWCs.

The chief guest directed field level family planning service providers to
ensure normal and safe delivery utilizing improved facilities at UHFWCs for
further reducing maternal, neonatal and infant mortality rates to achieve
sustainable development goals.
