HABIGANJ, Feb 20, 2020 (BSS) – As occupational health and safety have become important in addressing the fourth industrial revolution and minimizing the future work risks, the government formulated the ‘National Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Policy’ in 2013.

This was stated by State Minister for Labour and Empowerment Begum Monnujan Sufian while addressing as the chief guest a suggestive workshop on OHS at Habiganj’s Bahubal today.

“We are building an internationally-recognized national OHS research and training institute in Rajshahi to ensure a better and safer work environment for workers. And so, we have initiated a national action plan to implement the National Occupational Health and Safety Policy”, said Monnujan.

Through the policy, workers will be protected from accidents, injuries or fatalities and will increase the overall productivity of the factory or the organization, she said.

The state minister hoped that the national OHS work plans will play an important role in achieving sustainable development goals by ensuring safety in all workplaces as a whole.

She also said that it is high time to finalize the work plan ahead of the Mujib Year and National Occupational Health and Safety Day.

The workshop was organized jointly by Labour and Employment Ministry and Organization Inspection Department.

The workshop was presided over by Labour and Employment Secretary KM Ali Azam.

Shamsunnahar Bhuiyan, MP, Textile and Jute Secretary Lokman Hossain Mia, National Skill Development Authority Department Executive Officer GM Hasibul Islam, Legislative and Parliament Department Secretary Naren Das, Industries Ministry Additional Secretary AKM Shamshul Arefin, ILO Country Director Tomo Potiainen and Labour Department Director General AKM Mizanur Rahman were also present, among others, at the workshop.
