Collective approach needed to face climate impact: Minister

DHAKA, Aug 9, 2017 (BSS) – Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Manju said collective approach has become an urgent need to mitigate the adverse impact of climate change in the country.

“Climate change and global warming are a big problem. If it can be tackled, the country will play a significant role in other development sectors,” he said.

The minister made the remark while addressing a workshop titled “Review of Draft Action Plan for Achieving Sustainable Development Goal 13” at the Forest Bhaban in city’s Agargaon area.

He laid emphasis on economic, social and political changes to continue the development works in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Otherwise, he said, it is not possible to address the issue of climate change and global warming.

Deputy Minister for Environment and Forests Abdullah Al Islam Jacob, Chief Coordinator (SDG) at the Prime Minister’s Office Abul Kalam Azad, Chairman of PKSF Dr. Kazi Kholiquzzaman and Executive Director of Bangladesh Center for Advanced Studies A. Atiq Rahman, also addressed the workshop with Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forests Ishtiaque Ahmad in the chair.
