UK election chief praises Bangladesh’s bio-metric voter ID, EVM

DHAKA, Feb 15, 2020 (BSS) – The chair of the UK Election Commission (EC) Sir John Holmes has praised Bangladesh’s digitized bio-metric voter ID card and the use of electronic voting machine (EVM) in the polls.

John Holmes made the appraisal when his Bangladesh counterpart Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda paid a call on him on Wednesday in London, said a press release of Bangladesh High Commission in London.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland Saida Muna Tasneem attended the meeting.

John Holmes expressed the hope that UK too would be modernising and digitalising its electoral process, which is currently manual.

During the meeting, CEC Nurul Huda and John Holmes exchanged views on the best practices, challenges and conduct of elections in their respective countries.

They also exchanged views on various issues, including restrictions and financial accountability of electoral candidates, local council election system, voting of overseas citizens by postal balloting and commonwealth dual national voting system.
