BCB to form new U21 team to nurse World Champions for next two years

DHAKA, Feb 12, 2020 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is all set to form an Under-21 team to nurse the current Under-19 players for the next two years in a bid to make them a formidable force.

They will have an extensive training in those two years period in a residential camp and would be kept away from all limelight, said BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon.

The BCB chief also revealed that the players would get BDT one lac per month as a salary in those two years period.

The board in fact didn’t announce any cash remuneration for them to clinch the World Cup, beating mighty India by three wickets in a high-tensed ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup last Sunday.

“For the time being there is no decision to announce anything for the players but we will form a different unit named Under-21 team to give them an exclusive training so that they can hone their skill more and make them utmost prepared for the national team,” Nazmul Hassan Papon said here on Wednesday.

“They will be under intensive care for the next two years. In those two years, they will get BDT one lac salary per month. But the objective is to prepare them fully for the national team.”

He also informed that the BCB will arrange more tours for these players at home and abroad like the way they managed tour for them while they were in Under-19 team.

“The Under-19 team’s performance was not surprising at all. We prepared this team in planned way once we lost the semifinal game against West Indies in 2016 Under-19 World Cup. We arranged many tours for them in abroad so that they could acclimatize with the condition and this paid high dividends,” he added.

“Like this way, we would arrange tour in abroad and at home for them in the next two years to give them a vast exposure. I think it would help them to be prepared in more planned way,” he informed.

The BCB boss also said that the players would be kept away from the limelight and there is strict advice for them to keep the feet in the ground.

“When we started training for the Under-19 boys, we kept them isolated, something what very few could notice. We did this because we don’t want them to hog the limelight. And like this way when they would be in Under-21 team, they would be kept away from all limelight so that they couldn’t mull them as star player,” he disclosed.

Papon said he is particularly happy for these players as they made the dream of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina true.

“Once we beat Australia in a Test match, the Prime Minister told me that she would be very happy if Bangladesh can win a World Cup. That time it seems impossible but the Under-19 team’s performance gave us the confidence that they could make our dream true. This team win many matches in the foreign condition and played some high-tensed game. They were well equipped and well prepared. So once they won the World Cup, beating India, I wasn’t surprised,” he said.
