Sheikh Hasina uplifts Bangladesh to unique height: lawmakers

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 9, 2020 (BSS) – The treasury bench lawmakers today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken Bangladesh to a unique height globally under her efficient and prudent leadership.

The members of parliament (MPs) came up with the remark while taking part in the discussion on thanksgiving motion on President’s January 9 address to the House. Awami League lawmakers Mrinal Kanti Das, Md Mokbul Hossain, Ponir Uddin Ahmed, Aroma Dutta, Shahin Akter, Narayon Chandra Chanda, BM Kabirul Haque, Mohammad Hasan Imam Khan and Abdullah Al Islam Jakob took part in the discussion with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Taking part in the discussion, Mrinal Kanti criticized BNP and its founder Ziaur Rahman for the politics of conspiracy and demanded ‘posthumous trial’ of Zia for coup and counter coup that killed many military officials and soldiers and freedom fighters.

He (Zia) was also involved in the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members in 1975, Mrinal said, demanding the trial of Zia again for the 1975 carnage.

Mokbul Hossain, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Land, requested the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs minister for handing over the land registration offices to the Ministry of Land aimed at facilitating the people by delivering all land related services under an umbrella.

He also recommended for setting up separate land offices at district and divisional levels under the Ministry of Land headed by an official with the status of Deputy Commissioner (DC) or Divisional Commissioner as per the requirement to lessen the burden on the DCs.

Other lawmakers, taking part in the discussion, thanked the President for his time-befitting speech, terming President Abdul Hamid’s 163-page speech as the conclusive document of the government’s success in all sectors in the last 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The President also outlined the government’s future plans for transforming the country into a developed and prosperous one by 2041, they added.

Highlighting the President’s speech on the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the lawmakers said celebration of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary will remain as a milestone in the country’s history.

Earlier, the lawmakers paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his sacrifice and contribution to establish an independent Bangladesh.

They also paid rich tributes to the national four leaders and martyrs of the 1975 carnage.
