President goes to Patuakhali on two-day visit on Feb 4
DHAKA, Feb 02, 2020 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid will visit Patuakhali district on February 4-5 to attend the second convocation of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) at Dumki Upazila and at Kuakata of Kalapara Upazila for several other programmes.
“The President, also the Chancellor of the university, will preside over the 2nd convocation ceremony of PSTU on its campus on February 5 at 3 pm,” President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS this evening.
He added: “The head of the state is scheduled to be flown to Kuakata by helicopter on Tuesday afternoon as he would also join some other programmes at Kuakata”.
Kuakata is a rare scenic Bangladesh eco-tourism destination under Kalapara Upazila, just about 70 kilometers away from the district headquarters of Patuakhali and 320 kilometers from the capital, Dhaka.
At the PSTU convocation, former UGC Chairman and President of Bangladesh Academy of Science Emeritus Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury will give his speech as the Convocation Speaker where Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni will attend as the special guest.
Talking to the BSS, PSTU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Harun-Or-Rashid said a total of 2,929 students, including 1,970 graduates, will be conferred with degrees.
Six students will get Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree and 63 graduates and post-graduates will be given gold medals for their outstanding academic excellence, he added.
