Keep youths away from narcotics: PM

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 29, 2020 (BSS) – Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina today asked all concerned to pursue the anti-narcotics awareness campaigns alongside
conducting the ongoing drives against drugs to keep the youths away from the
menace.

“We are taking appropriate measures against (abuse of) narcotics as it not only
destroys a family but also harm the country as well as the addicts,” she said while
replying to a supplementary question from opposition Chief Whip Moshiur
Rahman Ranga during the PM’s question-answer session at the parliament.

She continued saying that they are taking necessary measures as the youths could
get beautiful and worthy lives for them.

The premier simultaneously reiterated her government’s stance on continuation
of the ongoing drives against narcotics and said, “One thing is to take legal action
against them (drug related people particularly peddlers) while the other thing is to
create awareness against it.”

Noting her government’s efforts to make people aware against the abuse of
drugs, she asked all particularly the guardians and authorities concerned of the
educational institutions such schools, colleges and universities to take necessary
measures to keep the youths away from the menace.

The premier also asked all concerned to keep the young-folk busy through sports
as they could not pay heed to the narcotics.

Replying to another supplementary question from BNP MP Md Harunur Rashid (Chapainawabganj-3), the Prime Minister said the government has been taking appropriate measures so that the youths could return to the healthy life keeping away the drug, violence and militancy as well.

She went on saying, “Yes, this is right I move amid security protocol… But it’s also not right that I don’t know the conditions of the city and the country. We keep watch on what’s happening (in the country).”

“He (Harun) told me (PM) that I should oversee everything properly. But a question is raised when I work much saying that why the Prime Minister has to do everything,” she added.

The premier said that she should oversee everything as she has taken the responsibility of the country.

While replying to a question from the treasury bench lawmaker, Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury (Sylhet-3), the PM said that her government is set to build technical school and college in each upazila.

While replying to a question from AL MP M Abdul Latif (Chattogram-11), she said that her government is now preparing the country’s second perspective plan-204 with comprising two core targets.

She added that the targets are making Bangladesh a developed country with over US$ 12,500 per capita income, while poverty would be a matter of the distant past in Sonar Bangla.

The premier said that “Skills for employment investment programme” project has taken to create one lakh drivers so that they can be employed at home and abroad while responding to a query from AL MP Morshed Alam (Noakhali-2).

Replying to another question from opposition Jatiya Party MP Fakhrul Imam (Mymensingh-8), she said that her government is closely monitoring social media round the clock so that no individual, group and section can disrupt peace and order by spreading rumours and misleading information.
