Revenue collection increased by four times in last 10 years: lawmaker

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 27, 2020 (BSS) – Treasury bench lawmaker Md Afsarul
Ameen today said that the revenue collection by the National Board of Revenue
(NBR) has been increased by four times in the last 10 years from 2009-10 to
2018-19.

“It (revenue collection) is a great achievement of our government. I
think it has been possible due to the government’s sincere efforts,” he said
while taking part in the discussion on thanksgiving motion on President Abdul
Hamid’s 9 January address to the House.

Highlighting different successes of the government in the last 11 years,
Afsarul said it was possible to keep the inflation rate limited to 5.5
percent in the fiscal 2018-19 for following the policies taken in the revenue
and currency sector.

Giving credits to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the current growth
rate of the country’s economy for formulating the “Vision-2021” and “Vision-
2041” aiming at building a poverty-free developed country by 2041, he said
the government has earned many successes in the Millennium Development Goals
(MDGs).

About 82 percent of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has been
incorporated into the 7th Five Year (FY) Plan while formulation of the 8th FY
Plan is underway, Afsarul added.

Projecting different development projects undertaken by the present
government, the treasury bench member said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is
the successful successor of dreamer of the developed and prosperous
Bangladesh, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He went on saying that the public welfare oriented modern Bangladesh is
now a wonder of the current world due to the confident leadership of Sheikh
Hasina overcoming many obstacles and conspiracies.

Awami League lawmakers, Nesar Ahmed, Md Mazaharul Hoque Prodhan, Selim
Altaf George, Md Anwarul Azim (Anar), Ahasanul Islam (Titu), Zakia Parvin
Khanam, Md Abu Zahir, Ferdosi Islam and Md Mozaffar Hossain and Jatiya Party
lawmaker Nazma Akther also took part in the discussion with Speaker Dr Shirin
Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

The lawmakers thanked the President for his time-worthy speech, saying
that President Abdul Hamid in his 163-page speech has projected the
government’s success in all sectors in the last 11 years under the leadership
of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and outlined the government’s future plans
for transforming the country into a developed and prosperous one by 2041.

Highlighting the President’s speech on the celebration of the birth
centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the
lawmakers said celebration of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary will remain as a
milestone in the country’s history.

Earlier, the lawmakers paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his sacrifice and contribution to
establish an independent Bangladesh.
