Community clinics to provide 24-hour service: Maleque

DHAKA, Jan 23, 2020 (BSS) – As many as 14,000 community clinics will provide 24 hours health services to ensure safe maternity and reduce the child mortality rate of the country.

This was stated by Health Minister Zahid Maleque while addressing as the chief guest at a seminar here today.

Bhorer Kagoj and NGO Forum Bangladesh jointly organized the seminar in Bhorer Kagoj Conference Room on ensuring safe drinking water and sanitation in all hospitals, said a press release.

The minister said at present, two toilets have been constructed in each community clinic of the country to ensure safe sanitary facilities.

Currently, 72 percent public hospitals have clean and safe toilet facilities and initiatives have been taken to ensure access of all people to safe sanitary facilities, the minister added.

In his speech, Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta said in 1990, the people living in villages defecated in open places. But people have become more aware for getting safe sanitation facilities to have better health, he added.

Chief Engineer of the Department of Public Health Engineering Saifur Rahman and WASH specialist of UNICEF Bangladesh Mahjabin Ahmed, among others, were present at the meeting.
