DHAKA, Jan 20, 2020 (BSS) – Photograph of President M Abdul Hamid was taken this evening for issuing e-passport that will be introduced from January 22.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to launch the e-passport system at a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) on January 22.

“Photograph, digital signature, image of iris and finger print of the President were taken by the Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP) Authority at Bangabhaban here this afternoon,” President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.

Secretaries concerned to the Bangabhaban, DIP Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed and Project Director of the e-passport Project Brigadier General Saidur Rahman Khan were present on the occasion.

After the ceremony, the President said the newly introduced e-passport system would play a very significant role in implementing the government’s ongoing ‘Digitization Process’.

The head of the state hoped that people would get service in an easy manner in this regard. The e-passport system would also uphold the image of the country abroad, he added.

Renowned German company Veridos GmbH has been working on e-passport and e-gate in the country.

The DIP will issue 48-page and 64-page passports with a validity of either five years or 10 years subject to the requirement of the applicants.
