Bangladesh advancing towards development rapidly: lawmakers

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 20, 2020 (BSS) – Lawmakers from the treasury and opposition benches today said that the country is advancing towards development rapidly under the present government as the nation has already witnessed a massive development across the country in the last 11 years.

The members of parliament (MPs) said this while taking part in the general discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President Md Abdul Hamid’s address to the House on January 9.

They thanked the President for his 163-page speech highlighting all the successes of the present government, terming the speech a document of the country’s development took place in the last 11 years.

Taking part in the discussion Tofail Ahmed, the then the Chhatra Sangram Parishad and Vice-President of Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU), recalled the memory of conferring “Bangabandhu Title” on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on February 23 in 1969.

“On the basis of historic 11-point movement, we freed Bangabandhu from Pakistan jail on February 22 through a mass-upsurge,” he said, adding as a mode of gratefulness, the Chhatra Sangram Parishad, on behalf of the nation, conferred Bangabandhu title on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on February 23.

Recalling the 11-point movement for freeing Bangabandhu from Pakistan jail, in which Asad, Matiur, Makbul Rustom and Sargent Zahurul Haque in cantonment and Rajshahi University Proctor Professor Shamsuzzoha embraced martyrdom, Tofail said, “The mass-upsurge of the 1969 was the “dress rehearsal” for our independence”.

He underscored the need for observing the historical days, including Asad’s martyrdom day on January 20, 1969, with befitting manner.

Terming Bangabandhu as a globally acclaimed prudent leader, he said “Many leaders will come and go across the world, but prudent leader like Bangabandhu is rare in the world”.

A vested quarter had stopped the way of building the country as a happy and prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’ by assassinating Bangabandhu along with his most of the family members, the veteran parliamentarian said, adding, however, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking the country towards the dreamt prosperous “Sonar Bangla”.

Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karin said, “We are advancing towards the development with an irresistible pace. Once upon a time, Bangladesh was dubbed as a model for natural disaster and poverty. But, today, Bangladesh is a role model for development across the world”.

Referring to different development activities took place in the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, he said, “We are now sincerely working to check corruption in the sector”.

Treasury bench lawmakers Md Abdul Aziz, Md Shihedul Islam (Bakul), Mir Mushtaque Ahmed Robi, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali, Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman, State Minister for Water Resources Jahid Faruk, Jatiya Party lawmaker Golam Kibria Tipu, also took part in the discussion with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Highlighting the President’s speech on the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the lawmakers said celebration of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary will remain as a milestone in the history.

Earlier, they paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
