President’s speech an undisputable document of development, MPs tell JS

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 16, 2020 (BSS) – Lawmakers today appreciated President Md Abdul Hamid for his January 9 address to the House that highlighted the success of the present government in different sectors, terming the speech an undisputable document of the country’s development.

“The speech of President Md Abdul Hamid delivered in the parliament is an undisputable document of the country’s development.

His speech reflected all the developments took place in the country in the past 11 years,” state minister for information Dr Md Murad Hassan said while taking part in the general discussion on a thanksgiving motion on the President’s speech.

The President in his 163-page speech projected the country’s development before the nation as well as the world as the country achieved a remarkable progress under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said.

“Today, Bangladesh is a role model of development across the world,” he said.

Taking part in the discussion, deputy minister for education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury said the role of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been lauded in the international arena for her outstanding contribution to the country’s inclusive development.

The development took place in both infrastructural and socioeconomic sectors, he added.

Highlighting the government’s success in the country’s education sector, Mohibul said the literacy rate here increased to 72 percent now while it was less than 50 percent in 2009. About 35 crore textbooks are being distributed among the student free of cost on the first day of the new year, he added.

Treasury bench lawmakers Zafar Alam, Pankaj Nath and Sayeda Rubina Akter and Bangladesh Workers Party MP Lutfun Nesa Khan took part in the discussion with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

The lawmakers highlighted the successes of the present government in different vital sectors, including education, power, agriculture, health, infrastructure development, economy and food production sectors.

Highlighting the President’s speech on the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, they said celebration of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary will remain as a milestone in the history.

Earlier, they paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
