Govt plans to set up vegetable storages: Razzaque

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 16, 2020 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque today said the government has planned to set up storages in different parts of the country aiming to preserve and process the locally produced vegetables.

The agriculture minister came up with the disclosure while replying to a starred question placed by treasury bench lawmaker Syed Abul Hossain (Dhaka-4) in the House with Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

He said a “Farmers’ Market” has already been set up at Sech bhaban near the city’s Manik Mia Avenue to ensure fair price of agricultural products and the market remains open on Friday and Saturday.

Besides, Razzaque said, the government is now setting up 30 more farmers’ markets in different parts of the country.

Noting that the government has taken various programmes to help farmers and ensure fair price of crops and agricultural products, he said the prices of all kind fertilizers reduced many times to help farmers produce crops.

The agriculture minister said seeds are being distributed among farmers at cheaper price so that they can cut the production cost of crops.

A total 18 assemble centres were set up in the country’s northwestern and southern regions for proper marketing of crops and other agricultural products.
